The purpose of this site is to inform young people about crisis management and what we as teenagers can do to help out. There are many different forms of disasters that can happen. There are two main categories: Natural Disasters (hurricanes, floods, and tornadoes), and Man-Made Disasters (terrorism, and major sabotage). Focusing more on the natural side of disasters there are many different things you can do to help protect you and your home from these disasters. Not only can you protect yourself but, you can also prepare yourself in the event that a natural disaster happens in your city. While states on the coast are more at risk to be affected by hurricanes; floods, tornadoes, and thunderstorms can strike anywhere from the coast to the heartlands. Though meteorologists have made huge strides in being able to predict the pattern and strength of these natural disasters they can't always be predicted and may take a highly unexpected change in course or strength. In the wake of hurricanes Katrina and Rita two of the biggest hurricanes to hit the United States in recent history there are a lot of people taking a more aggressive step toward emergency preparedness. As teens we can also assist in this effort by not only helping our parents prepare but getting are own things together. On the next page you will find a list of things that will come in handy if something was to happen in your area. They are just guidelines though and you may think of other necessary things you will need to stay ready. And remember that just because we are teens doesn't mean we can't assist in emergency preparedness. Hopefully you'll never have to go through any of these events in your life, but if you do maybe this will help you get through it a little bit easier. Check out the Supply List. |
